Shimla: In view of the continuous rains in Himachal Pradesh, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rain, flash floods and landslides in 7 districts of the state for the next 24 hours. The Meteorological Center Shimla has issued red and orange alerts for some areas. In view of the possible danger, it has been decided to keep schools closed in many districts for a day.
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rains may continue in many hilly areas of the state till July 30. Due to continuous rainfall, there is a risk of rising water levels in rivers and streams, landslides on the mountain slopes and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
The state government and district administration have appealed to people not to step out of their homes unnecessarily, not to go near rivers and streams and to avoid travelling on mountain roads. Tourists have also been advised to plan their travel keeping in mind the weather conditions.
In view of the heavy rain, disaster management teams, police, public works department and power department have been put on high alert. Relief and rescue teams have been deployed in sensitive areas so that immediate action can be taken in any emergency situation.
The education department has declared a holiday in schools in the affected districts, giving priority to the safety of students. The administration has also appealed to parents to prevent children from going to rain or water-logged areas.
Due to continuous rains for the past few days, incidents of road closures, power supply disruptions and traffic disruptions have been reported in many parts of the state. The Meteorological Department says that the situation is being continuously monitored and more alerts may be issued if necessary.
The administration has appealed to the people to trust only official weather bulletins and to immediately contact the local administration or disaster management department in any emergency situation.
