As per the directions of the Punjab Government, the Health Department today deployed special teams across the city under the “Har Shukrwar Dengue Te Waar” (Every Friday, Fight Against Dengue) campaign to carry out anti-larval activities, fogging, spraying and public awareness activities. These teams are visiting dengue-affected hotspot areas of the city, conducting anti-larval measures along with fogging and spraying, and spreading awareness among the public. During the campaign, awareness was created in areas including Civil Hospital, government and private nursing colleges, Ram Bagh, Jahajgarh, Putlighar, Majitha Road, Roadways and Bhagtanwala, besides other hotspot areas.
On the occasion, Civil Surgeon Dr. Rashmi Vij said that during the rainy season, water accumulation at various places is common, but stagnant water provides favourable conditions for mosquito breeding. Therefore, every citizen has a responsibility to cooperate with the Health Department in preventing mosquito breeding and contribute to the “Har Shukrwar Dengue Te Waar” campaign.
She appealed to the public to ensure every Friday that water does not accumulate in coolers, refrigerator trays, flower pots, water tanks, discarded items lying on rooftops and other containers around their homes, as the most effective way to prevent dengue is to stop mosquito breeding. People were also advised to wear full-sleeved clothes and use mosquito-repellent creams or repellents.
District Epidemiologist Dr. Harjot Kaur stated that dengue is a viral disease transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Its major symptoms include high fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, pain behind the eyes, vomiting, and bleeding from the nose, mouth or gums. She advised that if symptoms of dengue appear, people should immediately visit the nearest government hospital for free testing and treatment.
Earlier, District M.E.I.O. Amardeep Singh created awareness among the public regarding dengue prevention and distributed posters and pamphlets.
On this occasion, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajinder Pal Kaur, Assistant Malaria Officer Gurdev Singh, Baljit Singh, S.I.
