Chandigarh | Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab on Tuesday slammed the Congress for refusing to answer questions about its record and exploiting tragedies for political gain. The AAP said Punjab has not forgotten the 1984 Sikh massacre, the pain of which is being borne by families for generations, and questioned why Congress leaders are still avoiding accountability on the issue. The party also reminded the Congress that Punjabis have not forgotten its record on drugs and gangsterism.
AAP said that Gulzar Singh’s death was tragic and the matter should be thoroughly investigated, but Congress leaders should not turn the grief of a family into a political issue. The party said that the investigation is underway and the law should take its course, while questioning Sachin Pilot’s attempt to use the matter for political gain instead of allowing the investigation to proceed.
On this, AAP Punjab President and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora said, “Punjab has not forgotten 1984 and it will not forgive the Congress. Even after 42 years, the pain is as real. Every time Congress leaders evade questions and run away from accountability, they show utter hatred towards Punjab.”
Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said, “Why is Congress still running away from answering about the 1984 Sikh massacre? Why is there a fear of 1984 in Congress?”
Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said, “Sachin Pilot goes away. Raja Warring loses his temper. All this is because of questions about Kamal Nath and 1984. Why is the Congress leadership still panicking and refusing to face the truth about the 1984 Sikh massacre even after decades?”
Minister Dr. Balbir Singh said, “Why does Sachin Pilot run away and Raja Warring get angry when asked about Kamal Nath and 1984? If the Congress has nothing to hide about the 1984 Sikh massacre, then why this anger and avoidance?”
Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal said, “When Punjab asks about 1984, it deserves answers, not silence. Four decades have passed, but the pain of the victims remains. Accountability cannot be seen as an inconvenient political question. The Congress must have the courage to face it.”
Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said, “For Punjab, 1984 is not a history that can be easily brushed aside. It is a painful legacy that has been borne by families for generations. But today, even in 2026, why are Congress leaders hesitant to openly face questions of accountability?”
Minister Hardeep Singh Mundia said, “Why is Congress still refusing to answer the 1984 Sikh massacre? After 42 years, what is the party so afraid of?”
Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said, “1984: Even after 42 years, Congress is running away from questions. For Punjab and Punjabis, this is a wound that can never be erased. The pain remains, the questions remain, and the demand for accountability also remains. Punjab will keep asking, Congress will have to answer.”
Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh said, “Punjab can never recover from the wounds of 1984. And who was responsible for this? Indian National Congress. Yet, even after 4 decades, whenever questions are raised about 1984, Congress leaders choose the path of escape or silence. Punjab and Punjabis deserve answers.”
AAP said that Punjab has not forgotten the massacre of innocent Sikhs in 1984 and questioned why the Congress leadership is avoiding giving a clear answer on this issue.
The AAP also said that the Bhagwant Mann government is fighting the menace of drugs and gangsterism through decisive action, while the Congress is trying to turn every tragedy into a political campaign. “The Congress should answer for its track record on drugs and gangsterism before giving a speech to Punjab,” the party said.
AAP said that the people of Punjab can understand the difference between those who fight drugs and gangsterism with a sincere heart and those who come only when they have to stand by a dead body. AAP said that Congress should give justice to the victim’s family, not political slogans. Punjab will not allow Sachin Pilot, Raja Warring or Rahul Gandhi to exploit the tragedy for political gains.
