A high-level Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha delegation under the leadership of BJP National Vice President and Mahil Morcha in-charge Dr. D Purandeswari and BJP Mahila Morcha President Smt. Roop Kumari Chaudhary met the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar, at the NCW office today. The delegation submitted a detailed memorandum regarding the serious sexual harassment complaints filed by 11 female students against former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) professor and current Congress Lok Sabha MP Prof. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, and his subsequent dismissal by the university administration after being found guilty. BJP National Vice President, Mahila Morcha In-charge, and Lok Sabha MP Dr. Daggubati Purandeswari was also prominently present in this delegation.

Smt. Roop Kumari Chaudhary said, “Today, along with five MPs and Mahila Morcha office-bearers, we came to meet the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women. We urged her to take cognizance of the recent incident at JNU. Showing immense courage, 11 young women and students had filed a written complaint in May against the misbehavior by JNU professor and Congress MP from Manipur, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam. Following this, the complaint was found to be true in the internal committee’s investigation.”

The BJP Mahila Morcha National President further stated that although Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has been dismissed from JNU after the allegations were proven correct in the investigation, the Congress party and its leaders have not uttered a single word on this matter so far. “That individual enjoys the patronage of the Congress party and is highly influential. The brave girls who brought this matter to light are still studying in the same institution. Therefore, it is essential to ensure their safety, protection, and that they do not face any harm in the future. Given that he is a Member of Parliament in the sacred Lok Sabha, the Congress should have immediately expelled Angomcha Bimol Akoijam from the party as per the rules,” she added.

Smt. Chaudhary emphasized that the BJP is deeply concerned about the safety and dignity of those young women, yet the Congress has not even expelled the accused MP from its party. She stated, “We firmly believe that such a person has no right to remain in the sacred House of the country. We have come here today addressing all these issues, so that the safety of our daughters is ensured and the Women’s Commission takes cognizance of the matter.” The NCW Chairperson has fully assured the delegation that she will take cognizance of the issue and initiate necessary action.

Through the memorandum, the delegation demanded that the NCW Chairperson take due cognizance of this serious matter and ensure swift and impartial legal action by the competent authorities without any political interference. The delegation urged that the matter be brought to the attention of the Lok Sabha Speaker under the constitutional process and referred to the ‘Ethics Committee’ for an institutional inquiry, and that the accused MP, Prof. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, be immediately suspended from Parliament pending the investigation. Additionally, a strong demand was made to protect the safety, dignity, and privacy of the 11 complainant students, shielding them from any pressure or retaliation, and securing their research and academic future. Finally, the delegation demanded that the Congress leadership, which merely puts on a show of respecting women, adopt a clear and accountable stance on this sensitive issue so that the truth of their hypocritical political conduct is exposed before the nation.
