Punjab Governor Mr. Gulab Chand Kataria today attended the Sahakar Bhartiya Punjab Awareness Conference as the chief guest and termed the cooperative movement as an important basis for the development of villages and social strengthening. During his address, he said that cooperative is a very old and strong institution, which was established in 1979 and since then has been working continuously for the welfare of villages and the common people.
The Governor said that the spirit of cooperation binds people together with mutual brotherhood, support and dedication. He said that the principle of “Sanskar to Sahakar” plays an important role in making the society strong. When good Sanskars are instilled in the society, people come forward to help each other and this further strengthens the spirit of cooperation.
He said that the biggest contribution of the cooperative sector is in the agriculture and dairy sector. Cooperative institutions have played an important role in providing fertilizers, seeds, and other facilities to the farmers. In the dairy sector too, cooperation has helped in making the people of the villages self-reliant. He said that if cooperation is further strengthened, the economy of the villages can benefit greatly.
Praising the Punjabis, the Governor said that the bravery, dedication and hard work of Punjabis are an inspiration for the entire country. He said that Punjab is the food bank of the country and
The farmers here have made a major contribution to the food security of the country. He said that the youth of Punjab are also making a name for themselves in sports both in the country and abroad and Punjab has the highest number of players, who are the identity of the hard work and discipline of this land.
The Governor said in his address that for the progress of any organization, society or country, it is very important for a leader to be honest. If a leader is honest, loyal and pro-people, then the organizations become strong and the trust of the people also increases. He said that good and capable people should be selected in cooperative organizations so that these organizations can work more effectively for the welfare of the people.
On this occasion, the office bearers of Sahakar Bharti Punjab welcomed the Governor and various issues related to the cooperative sector were also discussed during the symposium. A large number of social workers, youth and prominent persons associated with various fields were present in the event.
