Patiala June 6:
Further strengthening the campaign being run by the Punjab government against drugs, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh has said that during the second phase of the “War on Drugs”, this campaign has now taken the form of a people’s movement. He said that this campaign launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann is getting overwhelming support from the people, which is the biggest proof of its success.
Dr. Balbir Singh said that addiction is a disease and just like every disease is treatable, similarly, treatment of addiction is also completely possible. He firmly said that the government is committed to bringing drug addict youth back into the mainstream of society.
He said that the complaint boxes installed in e-rickshaws for the convenience of the people have yielded very good results. Through these boxes, people are registering drug-related complaints without any fear, which is helping the administration to take immediate action. The Health Minister also said that this campaign is getting a big boost at the village level as well. VDC members are going door to door to make people aware about the harms of drugs and are motivating the youth to stay away from this evil. This awareness campaign is bringing positive changes in the society.
He further said that the Punjab government is promoting sports to keep the youth away from drugs. Playgrounds are being prepared in villages and cities and sports kits are also being provided to the youth so that they can channel their energy in the right direction.
Dr. Balbir Singh concluded by saying that this campaign is not only the responsibility of the government but also the responsibility of every Punjabi. If the entire society stands together against this evil, then the dream of a drug-free Punjab will definitely come true.
On this occasion, SDM Gurdev Singh Dhamma, police department officials, councilors Jasbir Gandhi, Devinder Kaur, Mohit Kumar, Jatinder Kaur SK and a large number of VDC members were present.
