Chandigarh , June 18 – Haryana Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini said that the sacrifice of the fifth Guru Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji is a unique example of truth , religion , humanity and spiritual power in Indian history. His life and martyrdom inspire us to never bow down in the face of injustice , oppression and lies. The Chief Minister was addressing a state-level function organized on the occasion of the 420th martyrdom day of Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Panchkula on Thursday. A documentary film based on the life of Guru Arjan Dev Ji was also shown on this occasion . During this , the Chief Minister also performed the service of Chhabeel. Many saints and great people from Haryana and Punjab arrived at the function and appreciated the function organized by the Haryana government and expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini for this .
Addressing the function organized by the Haryana Government under the ‘ Sant Mahapurakh Samman and Vichar Prasar Yojana ‘ , the Chief Minister said that he considered himself fortunate to be present at this function organized on the holy land of Shri Mata Mansa Devi and Shri Nada Sahib. While paying homage at the feet of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, he said that his sacrifice is not only the legacy of the Sikh community but also a source of inspiration for the entire country.
He said that the history of India is full of a glorious tradition of renunciation , penance , sacrifice and spiritual heroism. Whenever the country , religion , culture and humanity faced a crisis , our Gurus and saints protected truth and religion with their sacrifice. The sacrifice of Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji is the supreme example of this great tradition.
The Chief Minister said that Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji did a great job of uniting the society and weaving humanity into one thread . He established Shri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar and had four doors built in all four directions , which symbolize that this holy place is not open to any one caste , class or religion but to the entire humanity . He said that Guru Sahib had embodied the spirit of social harmony , equality and ‘ Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam ‘ centuries ago .
Shri Naib Singh Saini said that by collecting the hymns of various saints including Sant Kabir , Sant Namdev , Baba Farid and Sant Ravidas in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Guru Arjan Dev Ji did an unparalleled work of tying the diversity of India into the thread of unity . Guru Granth Sahib is still guiding as a pillar of spiritual light for the entire humanity .
The Chief Minister said that Martyrdom Day is not only an occasion to pay tribute , but also an occasion for introspection. He said that when we remember the sacrifice of Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, along with pride, we also remember the tortures that he endured for the protection of religion and truth. He said that the then Mughal ruler Jahangir’s government was afraid of the growing influence and spiritual awakening of Guru Sahib. He was imprisoned in Lahore and subjected to inhuman torture , but he did not compromise on his principles.
The Chief Minister said that making him sit on a hot iron , pouring hot sand on his body and causing unbearable pain was the limit of cruelty , but there was no wrinkle on the face of Guru Sahib . He accepted the will of God by chanting ‘ Tera Kiya Meetha Lage ‘ . This incident is not just a martyrdom but the highest example of spiritual endurance , spiritual strength and unwavering faith in God. He said that the sacrifice of Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji teaches us that one should never compromise for the protection of truth , justice and culture. Today, when the country is moving forward towards building a developed India under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi , then the teachings of Guru Sahib are the guiding force for us.
Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini said that the land of Haryana has been the land of saints , gurus and warriors. The soil here also has the knowledge of Gita and the fragrance of the sacrifices of the gurus. The state government is working with full commitment to carry forward this heritage. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the work of honoring the contribution and sacrifice of the Sikh gurus is being done across the country. The 400th Parkash Purb of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji , the organization of Veer Bal Diwas at the national level and the construction of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor are historic steps taken in this direction.
The Chief Minister said that the Haryana Government has also taken many important decisions to convey the Sikh history and teachings of the Gurus to the new generation. The Haryana Government has included the history of the Sikh Gurus in the syllabus of Class VIII History. Now, along with the Sikh Gurus, students will also study the sacrifice , sacrifice and ideals of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur. He said that special trains were run from Kurukshetra and Sirsa for the pilgrimage to Sri Hazur Sahib , Nanded. Apart from this, provision has been made to give a government job to one member each of the 121 families affected by the 1984 riots . On the occasion of Veer Bal Diwas, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah also handed over appointment letters to these families in Panchkula.
The Chief Minister said that about nine acres of land of the historic Gurdwara Chilla Sahib located in Sirsa has been transferred to the name of Gurdwara Sahib without any fee. He himself had submitted the documents for this in the presence of the Sangat. He informed that the medical college being built in Yamunanagar has been named after Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji . Similarly, the Government Polytechnic College in Ambala and the Tohana-Jind-Dhamtan Sahib road have also been named in the honour of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
Shri Naib Singh Saini said that the Sikh Gurus gave the message of equality , service , compassion , brotherhood and social justice. The Prime Minister’s mantra of ‘ Sabka Saath , Sabka Vikas , Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas ‘ is also inspired by this spirit. He said that service to the last person of the society is the true religion. He said that the langar tradition started by the Gurus gives us the message of equality and humanity . This system teaches that the king and the rank , the rich and the poor are all equal. It is the need of the hour to build a united and powerful society by eliminating caste , untouchability and discrimination from the society.
The Chief Minister appealed to the youth to draw inspiration from the glorious history and sacrifices of the Sikh Gurus. When the youth know their history and heritage, their self-confidence will increase and they will be able to contribute more effectively in nation building . The Chief Minister appealed to them to take a resolve to follow the path of truth , service , compassion and meditation as shown by Guru Arjan Dev Ji . He said that this would be a true tribute to the Guru Sahib and this is the most effective way to strengthen peace , harmony and brotherhood in the society.

Gurmeet Singh , Former Speaker of Haryana Vidhan Sabha Mr. Gianchand Gupta , Sant Baba Joga Singh , Sardar Jasdeep Singh , Mahant Mahesh Muni , Sant Baba Mani Singh Jurasi Wale , Swami Rajeshwaranand , Baba Sultan Singh and Baba Devendra Singh Israna along with a large number of dignitaries were present.
