Patiala, June 19
The awareness campaign being carried out with the objective of making the royal city of Patiala clean and green received a major boost today when Patiala Municipal Corporation Mayor Kundan Gogia, Commissioner Poonam Syal and Additional Commissioner Simarpreet Kaur jointly released the special poster titled “Clean Patiala, Green Patiala”, prepared by the renowned Gyan Jyoti Education Society (Regd.), Patiala.
After releasing the poster, Society President Upkar Singh informed that the organisation has been conducting a special cleanliness drive in various parks and their surrounding areas across the city continuously since June 1. He further stated that under this campaign, International Yoga Day will be celebrated with great enthusiasm on June 21 (Sunday).
On this special occasion, various societies and organisations that have done commendable work in the maintenance, cleanliness and environmental improvement of parks in Patiala will be honoured with special ‘Green Awards’ for securing first, second and third positions. The remaining participating organisations will be presented certificates of appreciation to encourage their efforts.
The Municipal Corporation officials highly appreciated the work being done by Society President Upkar Singh and his entire team. The Mayor said that Gyan Jyoti Education Society has been serving the environment for the last two decades by running the “Every Person Plants Two Trees” movement and by working closely with the Municipal Corporation in keeping parks clean, making the city plastic-free and promoting environmental conservation.
She appealed to all residents of Patiala to join this campaign so that a cleaner, greener and more beautiful Patiala can be created.
Apart from Society President Upkar Singh, those present on the occasion included Ward No. 5 MC Davinder Kaur, Inderjit Singh, Tarsem Singh, Sushil Midda and other officials and employees of the Municipal Corporation.
