Patiala, July : The Punjab Government has launched the state’s first Hybrid Cleanliness Model in Patiala, marking a major step towards modernising urban sanitation. Inaugurating the initiative, Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced that the government aims to make Patiala the cleanest city in Punjab within the next 30 days.

The newly introduced model combines mechanised and manual cleaning methods to improve the efficiency and quality of sanitation services. Under the initiative, machines will be used for cutting grass and shrubs, deep cleaning roads with super-suction and scrubber machines, and regular washing of roads, while sanitation workers will carry out manual collection of organic waste and detailed cleaning operations according to a structured weekly schedule.

The government said the four-stage cleanliness system, introduced under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is designed to significantly enhance urban sanitation standards. The first stage involves clearing grass and overgrown vegetation, followed by waste collection, deep mechanised cleaning of roads, and finally, thorough washing of streets.

Officials highlighted that sanitation workers will continue to play a vital role in the programme. While advanced machines will handle large-scale and labour-intensive tasks, sanitation workers will focus on detailed cleaning to ensure high standards of hygiene. This approach is expected to reduce physical strain on workers while improving the speed and quality of sanitation services.

The government expressed confidence that residents will witness a visible improvement in the cleanliness of roads, parks, and other public spaces in Patiala over the coming weeks. Following the successful implementation of the pilot project, the Hybrid Cleanliness Model is planned to be rolled out across Punjab with the goal of making the state one of the cleanest in the country.
