Surrey, B.C.: Surrey’s first-ever Taste of India Festival drew thousands of visitors, transforming the city into a vibrant hub of Indian culture, cuisine and entertainment. The inaugural event celebrated India’s rich heritage while promoting multiculturalism and community unity in one of Canada’s most diverse cities.
The festival featured an exciting mix of authentic Indian food, live music, traditional dance performances, cultural exhibits and family-friendly activities, giving visitors a unique opportunity to experience the country’s diverse traditions and flavours.
The celebration was attended by Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke, Noemi Victorino, Councillor Linda Annis, Shina Varmani, and other city dignitaries, who applauded the organizers for introducing a festival that strengthens cultural appreciation and brings communities together.
Mayor Brenda Locke said the event reflected Surrey’s commitment to celebrating diversity and building an inclusive community where people of all backgrounds feel welcome.
She also congratulated festival organizer Amrit Dhot, along with the volunteers, sponsors and community partners, for their dedication in making the inaugural festival a memorable success.
Families from across Surrey enjoyed the lively atmosphere throughout the day, sampling a variety of regional Indian dishes, watching colourful cultural performances and participating in community activities. Visitors praised the festival for showcasing India’s traditions while creating meaningful connections among Surrey’s diverse communities.
