CHANDIGARH: The Haryana state government is majorly expanding vocational education across its government schools by introducing cutting-edge subjects like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Financial Technology (Fintech) to prepare students for future tech industries. During a review meeting of the Samagra Shiksha scheme, Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi directed education officials to accelerate these reforms, emphasizing the need for 100% student enrollment across all districts and a significant improvement in learning outcomes.
According to the education department, vocational training will be launched in 306 additional government schools during the first phase of this expansion. This strategic rollout aims to boost the reach of vocational education among secondary-level students from the current 31 percent to an ambitious 60 percent by the 2026–27 academic year.
Presently, 2.13 lakh students are receiving vocational training across 1,398 government senior secondary schools in the state. Alongside skill-based courses, Haryana is rapidly strengthening its digital infrastructure, with nearly 99 percent of government schools now equipped with smart classrooms, ICT labs, internet connectivity, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) facilities.
The ultimate objective of the state government remains to seamlessly integrate vocational education across all government secondary and senior secondary institutions.
