NEW DELHI | The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) strongly condemned the assault of blind students who were campaigning for Pankaj Kumar, the party’s student wing Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP)’s blind candidate for the post of Secretary in the Delhi University Students’ Union elections (DUSU). The AAP said the incident reflected ABVP’s fear of defeat, as some of its members allegedly hurled abuses at and assaulted the students while they were seeking votes for Pankaj Kumar. The party called the incident extremely shameful and disgusting and urged the BJP and RSS to take note of ABVP’s conduct.
Sharing on X a video of ABVP students misbehaving with blind students who were seeking votes for ASAP candidate Pankaj Kumar, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj declared the incident as extremely disgusting and shameful. “Abusing & manhandling blind students who are campaigning in DUSU for their blind colleague Pankaj Kumar. ABVP & RSS should note,” he stated in a X post.
Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh also strongly condemned the incident. He said in an X post, “ABVP has stooped so low that they are beating and verbally abusing visually impaired students. These visually impaired children were canvassing for votes for Pankaj Kumar, who is visually impaired like them. ABVP and BJP should feel ashamed.”
Senior AAP leader and Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha stated, “ABVP has stooped so low that it is no longer shying away from even beating and hurling abuses at visually impaired students. These children were not asking for anything for themselves from anyone; rather, they were seeking votes for their fellow visually impaired peer, Pankaj Kumar.”
He further asserted, “In a democracy, it is every student’s right to seek votes in support of their preferred candidate, but the way ABVP treated these children is utterly shameful and reprehensible. ABVP and BJP should feel ashamed.”
Taking to X, AAP Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the MCD Ankush Narang also stated, “ABVP has stooped so low that they are beating and verbally abusing visually impaired students. These blind children were just asking for votes for Pankaj Kumar, who is blind like them. ABVP and BJP should be ashamed.”
AAP National Media In-charge Anurag Dhanda said on X, “Just like the BJP, so is their degenerate student wing ABVP. This time, the student organization ASAP has fielded visually impaired student Pankaj in the elections. ABVP goons are harassing some visually impaired students who are campaigning for him. How low will you stoop, BJP folks?”
The Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP) said on X, “ABVP goons have assaulted and abused blind students. These students were campaigning for their fellow blind ASAP candidate Pankaj Kumar. ABVP should be ashamed.”
