Chandigarh | Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress over Rahul Gandhi’s recent statements on Punjab’s drug problem and asked why Congress leaders are silent about their own state’s record of tenure.

AAP Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu said, “Rahul Gandhi has once again remembered Punjab’s drug problem. But will Congress answer to its government’s record? Captain Amarinder Singh had sworn on Sri Gutka Sahib that he would eradicate drugs from Punjab, but that oath turned out to be false. Despite the revelations related to Inspector Inderjit Singh, former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajjit Singh was posted at various places during Captain Amarinder Singh’s government.”

He further said, “Drugs became a major issue in Punjab during the 2007-2017 Akali-BJP government, when the names of individuals known as ‘Satta’ and ‘Pindi’ also surfaced in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation.”

He also questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah that he tweets about drugs but does not clarify what action was taken after bringing back Satta and Pindi from Canada. The AAP leader highlighted drug-related cases in BJP-ruled states, especially Gujarat, and questioned how such cases are being dealt with.

Taking a dig at the Congress, Baltej Pannu asked Rahul Gandhi, “Why was Rajjit Singh posted as SSP at various places under Captain Amarinder Singh even after the arrest of Inspector Inderjit Singh?” He also reminded the Congress of Captain Amarinder Singh’s oath of Shri Gutka Sahib to eradicate drugs from Punjab, which turned out to be false.

Baltej Pannu said, “The Bhagwant Mann government took action against Rajjit Singh and opened the reports pending in the High Court. After this, Rajjit Singh had absconded and is now in police custody. His interrogation may reveal which people were involved with him.”

Taking a dig at the opposition’s attempts to question the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s record on drugs, Baltej Pannu said, “It shows that even after five years, we are answering in front of so many cameras and microphones, which clearly shows that we are satisfied with our work.”

Baltej Pannu challenged the Congress, saying, “Stop lecturing Punjab on the drug problem and answer for the decisions taken during your tenure. Explain what action you took against the drug mafia and name a single initiative taken on your behalf to stop drug addiction in Punjab.”
