With the objective of promoting physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, Gyan Jyoti Education Society organized a grand Yoga event and felicitation ceremony under the Green Patiala-Clean Patiala campaign at Nehru Park, Patiala, on the occasion of International Yoga Day. The event was held in collaboration with the District Administration, Health Department, District Social Security Office, District Sanjh Kendra Patiala Police, and the Office of the Civil Surgeon. This year’s global theme, ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health,’ conveys the message of strengthening the bond between human beings and nature.
The programme commenced at 6:00 a.m. with Patiala Mayor Kundan Gogia attending as the Chief Guest. The event was inaugurated by District Social Security Officer Varinder Singh Tiwana and Sukhjinder Singh Bajwa, In-charge of District Sanjh Kendra, Patiala Police. On this occasion, Upkar Singh, President of Gyan Jyoti Education Society, welcomed the guests and informed that the institution was celebrating its twelfth International Yoga Day event.
Under the leadership of Mayor Kundan Gogia, participants practiced various yoga postures and breathing exercises as per the Common Yoga Protocol, including Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Padahastasana, Bhujangasana, Sarvangasana, Anulom-Vilom, Kapalbhati, and meditation. The collective yoga session lasted for nearly 45 minutes and the atmosphere remained energetic and filled with positivity throughout.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Kundan Gogia said that Yoga is not merely a form of exercise but a way of life. He stated that in today’s stressful and disease-prone world, Yoga is one of the most effective means of maintaining mental balance and physical fitness. Appreciating the unique initiative of Gyan Jyoti Education Society, he said that honouring organizations involved in maintaining parks across Patiala city is a highly commendable effort.
District Social Security Officer Varinder Singh Tiwana said that the District Administration is conducting Yoga classes at the village level to transform Yoga into a mass movement. He added that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body, and Yoga is the simplest and most effective medium to achieve this. On the occasion, Dr. Sumit Singh from the Civil Surgeon Office highlighted the significant role of Yoga in preventing non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity.
During the event, the Society distributed informative pamphlets on the benefits of Yoga and also set up registration counters for free Yoga classes. School children presented tableaux carrying slogans such as ‘Practice Yoga, Stay Healthy’ and ‘Health is the Greatest Wealth.’
On this occasion, Upkar Singh, President of Gyan Jyoti Education Society, State Awardee Parminder Bhalwan, and Governor Awardee Jatwinder Grewal informed that free Yoga camps would be organized in various parks, schools, and community centres across the city for the next one month to take Yoga to every household.
During the programme, organizations contributing to the cleanliness and maintenance of parks in Patiala city were honoured. Housing Board Welfare Association, Urban Estate secured the first position, ‘Mera Patiala Main Sawaran’ secured the second position, and Ram Swaroop Goel Memorial Park, Bharat Vikas Parishad secured the third position.
Among those present on the occasion were Sukhjinder Singh Bajwa, Raviinder Kaur Rana Sidhu, Parminder Kaur Manchanda, Ashwani Kamboj, Asha Sharma, Manjit Kaur, Mangat Ram Tony, Pradeep Puri, S.I. Jaswant Kumar and several other dignitaries. The stage proceedings were conducted by Dr. Harnek Singh Dhot, former Deputy Director of the Language Department, Punjab.
