New Delhi: The government in Delhi has prepared a comprehensive winter action plan to deal with the increasing air pollution during winter. Led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the plan is set to be implemented from November 1 to February 28. It aims to reduce pollution levels, provide clean air to the public and improve air quality in the capital. Under this plan, special emphasis will be given to reducing pollution from vehicles, dust from construction sites and traffic pressure.
The Winter Action Plan envisages implementation of a ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ policy. Under this, fuel supply to vehicles without a valid Pollution Control (PUC) certificate will be banned. In addition, there is also a provision to ban vehicles below BS-VI registered outside Delhi, so that emissions from older and more polluting vehicles can be controlled.
Strict measures will also be taken to control dust from construction sites. There are plans to increase monitoring of construction activities, including the use of AI cameras to monitor violations. The aim is to identify pollution from construction activities and ensure compliance with regulations.
Emphasis also placed on increasing work from home to 50 percent
The government has also emphasized on encouraging 50 percent home working in offices to reduce pollution. This can help reduce the number of vehicles on the roads and traffic congestion. Along with this, people will be encouraged to use public transport instead of private vehicles. To achieve this, the focus will be on electric buses, metro services and strengthening last-mile connectivity, ensuring easy access to their destinations.
Pollution becomes a major challenge during winters in Delhi. In such a situation, this winter action plan of the government focuses on controlling pollution caused by vehicular emissions, construction dust and traffic. Now the impact of this plan will depend on its effective implementation, monitoring of rules and participation of the common people. The government aims to take the capital towards clean air, healthy families and a pollution-free environment.
