Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema today dedicated five road projects, completed at a combined cost of over ₹9.15 crore, to the people of Ladbanjara and Turbanjara villages in the Dirba Assembly Constituency of Sangrur district. He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is giving top priority to strengthening basic infrastructure to ensure holistic development of rural areas.
Addressing the gathering, the Finance Minister said that roads are not merely a means of transportation but form the backbone of the rural economy. Better road connectivity enables farmers to transport their produce to markets more efficiently while also ensuring easier access to educational institutions, healthcare facilities, workplaces and other essential services for students, employees and the general public.
Cheema said three road projects costing over ₹5.22 crore have been completed in Ladbanjara Kalan. These include the 3.75-km Ladbanjara-Shadihari road at a cost of ₹148.41 lakh, the 2.40-km Ladbanjara-Nihalgarh road at ₹123.80 lakh, and the 4-km Ladbanjara-Khetla road at ₹250.43 lakh.
Similarly, two road projects worth over ₹3.92 crore have been completed in Turbanjara. These include the 2.80-km Turbanjara-Dirba road, constructed at a cost of ₹168.47 lakh, and the 4-km Turbanjara-Gujran road, completed at a cost of ₹224.18 lakh.
The Finance Minister said the five projects have strengthened nearly 16.95 km of the road network, improving connectivity between villages and providing greater convenience in daily travel to thousands of residents. He reiterated that the common people remain at the centre of the Punjab Government’s development policy, with projects being undertaken in both rural and urban areas without discrimination.
Cheema said the government is ensuring judicious utilisation of public funds by prioritising projects that have a direct impact on people’s lives. He added that a strong road network is essential for accelerating economic and social activity in rural areas. Development projects are being planned according to the needs and suggestions of local residents, and priority will continue to be given to projects that address the area’s infrastructure requirements in the future.
