Patiala, September 12:
Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Alka Sarin, Judge of the Punjab & Haryana High Court, today inspected the Central Jail, Patiala, to review the facilities and arrangements being provided to inmates.
During the inspection, Justice Alka Sarin visited the Female Ward, Crech Cum Skill Development Centre, Jail Factory, ITI Class Rooms, Jail Hospital, Legal Aid Room, Jail Nursery, VC room, Common Kitchen and High Security Zone, and took stock of the facilities and functioning of these sections. She also interacted with inmates and enquired about their concerns, healthcare and other basic amenities.
Justice Alka Sarin emphasized the need to ensure that inmates are provided all entitled facilities and that their legal rights are duly protected. She also reviewed prison welfare measures and issued necessary directions to the jail authorities.
Sh. Avtar Singh, Ld. District and Sessions Judge, Patiala, and Ms. Shilpi Gupta, Civil Judge (Senior Division)-cum-Incharge Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala, were also present during the inspection.
Jail Superintendent Gurcharan Singh Dhaliwal briefed the Hon’ble Judge Alka Sarin about the overall functioning of the jail, security arrangements, healthcare facilities, vocational activities and welfare initiatives being undertaken for inmates.
