Uttarakhand: Normal life has been affected due to continuous heavy rains in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand. Amidst the ongoing heavy rains in Rudraprayag district and Kedarnath Dham area, a landslide has occurred in Munkatiya near Sonprayag. Due to this landslide, a part of the main Kedarnath highway was covered with debris, partially disrupting traffic. The district administration, realizing the seriousness of the situation, took immediate action and intensified efforts to restore the road.
Munkatiya work continues
The highway has been closed due to a large amount of debris and stones falling from the hill in Munkatiya near Gaurikund. The district administration has deployed heavy machinery and JCB with immediate effect to reopen the road. The work of removing the debris is going on on a war-footing.
Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Nandan Singh Rajwar clarified the situation and said that there is a road block at Munkatiya, which is near Gaurikund, but JCB is working continuously there and that route will be opened for traffic very soon.
Rudraprayag district administration is on high alert in view of the changing weather conditions and landslides. Rescue and response teams are constantly monitoring the Kedarnath Yatra route to deal with any emergency situation, so that immediate help can be provided to the pilgrims.
District Magistrate issues strict instructions
According to DDMO Nandan Singh Rajwar, the District Magistrate (DM) has issued clear instructions to all the concerned departments and officers. The officers and employees of the Yatra sector who have been entrusted with the responsibilities are on full alert mode at their designated places. The administration says that all possible steps are being taken to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the Kedarnath Yatra. Pilgrims are being advised to continue their journey only after checking the weather conditions and following administrative guidelines.
