SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has temporarily stop the ongoing Amarnath Yatra from both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes starting today, Sunday, July 19, 2026. The preventive stoppage was executed following an adverse weather forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to ensure the safety and well-being of thousands of traveling pilgrims.
According to an official administrative statement, the pause will remain in place for the next few days as a strict precautionary measure. Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg confirmed that no devotees will be permitted to advance beyond the Baltal and Nunwan/Chandanwadi base camps from today onward. Officials emphasized that the pilgrimage will only resume after a thorough assessment of weather conditions and a complete safety clearance of the mountain tracks.
Before today’s weather-induced interruption, the annual pilgrimage had been progressing smoothly, with over 3.70 lakh devotees successfully visiting the holy cave shrine since the yatra commenced this season. Authorities have advised all stranded pilgrims to remain at their designated transit camps and rely strictly on official updates regarding the resumption of the journey.
