Patiala, September 5: Contract Teachers associated with Punjabi University, Patiala, observed Teachers’ Day as a Black Day today to express their strong concern over their long-pending demands.
The protest has entered its 19th consecutive day at the University Campus, with teachers also raising their concerns at various colleges and campuses. The teachers stated that several of their legitimate demands, particularly those concerning Contract Assistant Professors, have remained unresolved for the past 15–20 years.
On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, teachers wore black badges/clothes and displayed black flags as a symbol of protest. Through this peaceful demonstration, they sought to draw the attention of the University administration, the concerned authorities and the general public towards their longstanding issues.
The protesting teachers appealed to the University administration to take immediate and meaningful steps towards resolving their demands and ensuring that Contract Assistant Professors receive their due rights and legitimate benefits.
The teachers further stated that they would continue to raise their concerns through peaceful and democratic means until their genuine demands are addressed.
The teaching community appealed to the media to highlight their issues so that their concerns reach the wider public and the competent authorities.
