Patiala, June 6:
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Municipal Corporation Patiala organized a special campaign to clean the environment and make the city pollution free. Under this campaign, a special plantation drive was conducted at STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) located at Sher Majra, where Patiala Mayor Kundan Gogia and Municipal Commissioner Paramjit Singh reiterated their commitment to nature conservation by planting saplings with their own hands.
Environmental protection is everyone’s shared responsibility: Mayor
During the event, while making the city residents aware, Mayor Kundan Gogia said that planting more and more trees is the biggest need of the day to control the ever-increasing pollution and summer temperatures. He appealed that every citizen should plant at least one sapling on the important days of his life and take a solemn vow to take care of it till it grows up. The Mayor said that the Municipal Corporation will continue such campaigns to increase greenery in different parts of Patiala, government buildings and parks.
Only with greenery will a clean and beautiful city be created: Commissioner
Municipal Commissioner Paramjit Singh while addressing the gathering clarified that planting trees is not just a one-day formality, but watering and protecting the planted plants is equally important. He said that the Municipal Administration is continuously making efforts at various levels to make Patiala clean, beautiful and pollution-free. He appealed to the people to contribute more and more in this environment-friendly initiative of the government.
The idea was to plant fruit and shade trees.
During this special campaign, different types of shade and fruit trees were planted around the plant so that the greenery could be increased in the area of STP plant. At the end of the camp, all the officers and employees present took an oath to take care of the planted plants responsibly.
On this occasion, Municipal Corporation’s AXION Narayan Das, AXION JP, STP Plant In-charge Nitin along with other high officials, supervisors and servants of the Municipal Corporation were specially present.
