Chandigarh: Punjab’s government schools have achieved a historic milestone in the NEET-UG 2026 examination, with 882 students qualifying, marking the highest-ever number of successful candidates from the state’s government education system. The achievement comes despite the nationwide re-examination conducted after the original NEET-UG test was cancelled due to a paper leak.
Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains congratulated the students, teachers, and parents on the remarkable success, describing it as a testament to the continuous improvement in the quality of education in government schools. He highlighted that the number of successful candidates has nearly doubled compared to previous years, reflecting the positive impact of educational reforms and focused academic support.
The record-breaking performance underscores the growing confidence of students studying in Punjab’s government schools, many of whom come from ordinary families and have overcome significant challenges to secure seats in one of India’s most competitive medical entrance examinations.
The achievement is expected to encourage more students to pursue careers in medicine while reinforcing the Punjab government’s efforts to strengthen public education through improved infrastructure, quality teaching, and specialized coaching initiatives.
