Chandigarh : A grand state-level function was organized in the capital Chandigarh today with the aim of promoting sports and sportspersons in Punjab. During this special function, Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann honored 87 eminent sportspersons of the state with Punjab’s highest sports award ‘Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award’ . Encouraging the sportspersons, the Chief Minister has set a new record by distributing a total of Rs 32.05 crore in prize money to the athletes and awardees who have brought glory to Punjab in the country and abroad .
Indian hockey and women’s cricket team players rained down notes
During the ceremony, Punjabi players of the Indian hockey team and women’s cricket team were especially honored with huge cash prizes. On this occasion, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann honored the daughters of Punjab – Harmanpreet Kaur, Amanjot Kaur and Harleen Deol, who created history by winning the T-20 Women’s World Cup, with cash prizes of Rs 1.50 crore each . Apart from this, special honors were also given to many other players who won medals at the national and international level.

Addressing the gathering of award-winning players, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said in an emotional and enthusiastic manner, “We are very proud of our players. You should focus your full attention only and only on your game.”
Making a big announcement to secure the future of the players, he said that whenever the players feel that they are old or want to retire from sports, they can take retirement with confidence. Immediately after retirement, the Punjab government will give them a prestigious and honorable government job. Encouraging the players, the Chief Minister said, “You just come home after winning medals, our dhol, necklace and cash prizes are always waiting for you.”
