Ludhiana: Punjab Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Saund on Tuesday inaugurated a new 66 KV Grid Sub-Station at Gidderwindi village in Jagraon tehsil of Ludhiana district, marking another step towards strengthening the state’s power infrastructure under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Jagraon MLA Sarvjit Kaur Manuke and Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) Chairman-cum-Managing Director Dr. Basant Garg, along with senior officials and local residents.
Addressing the gathering, Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Saund said the Punjab Government is committed to providing uninterrupted, reliable, and high-quality electricity to consumers across the state. He said the new grid sub-station has been developed at a cost of ₹5.50 crore and will significantly improve electricity distribution in the region.
The project will benefit thousands of consumers in 10 villages, including Gidderwindi, Lodhiwal, Tihara, Sherewal, Sodhiwal, Malsian Bajan, Kanniya, Rasoolpur Jandi, Taraf Kotli, and Abupura, by ensuring a more stable and uninterrupted power supply.
The minister also acknowledged the contribution of local residents, noting that 1 acre and 2 kanal of land was provided for the project. Of this, 1 acre and 1 kanal was donated by the residents of Gidderwindi village, while 1 kanal was contributed by Lodhiwal village in the larger public interest. He described the gesture as an exemplary display of community participation in development.
As part of the project, a 6.30-kilometre-long 66 KV transmission line with 29 transmission towers has been constructed. Around ₹2.52 crore was spent on the transmission line and line bay infrastructure. The grid sub-station includes a 12.5 MVA power transformer and seven outgoing 11 KV feeders, built at a cost of ₹1.78 crore, while ₹1.30 crore was invested in civil works, including the sub-station building.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Sarvjit Kaur Manuke thanked the Power Minister for approving key infrastructure projects in the Jagraon constituency. She expressed confidence that, in addition to the Gidderwindi grid, the upcoming Bujkar, Kaunke, and Bhammipur grid stations will further strengthen the electricity network and help eliminate power-related issues across the constituency.
