Chandigarh: Continuous rainfall across Punjab has brought significant relief from the humid weather, with showers that began on Tuesday night continuing through Wednesday in several parts of the state. Heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded in multiple districts, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), nearly 800 mm of cumulative rainfall has been recorded in Punjab so far this season. The department has issued a yellow alert for July 23, warning of continued rain and the possibility of localized heavy downpours.

The IMD has forecast rainfall across all 23 districts of Punjab, including Chandigarh. Districts such as Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar and Mohali are likely to experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, while light to moderate showers are expected in the remaining parts of the state.

Officials have cautioned that persistent rainfall could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, potentially disrupting traffic and daily life. Residents have been advised to stay alert during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees, and refrain from venturing into open areas during lightning activity.

Meanwhile, district administrations have been directed to remain vigilant and ensure that drainage systems function efficiently to prevent flooding. Authorities are closely monitoring the weather situation and have urged citizens to follow official advisories until conditions improve.
