LUCKNOW / NEW DELHI | Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Uttar Pradesh Prabhari and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh addressed a press conference at the party headquarters in Lucknow on Monday, launching a scathing attack over widespread irregularities in Uttar Pradesh’s voter lists and the Election Commission’s biased conduct. He said that despite repeated instances of voter list manipulation coming to light, the Election Commission was offering absurd and shameful arguments instead of fixing accountability.
CEO Navdeep Rinwa’s response is highly objectionable & reflects BJP mindset: Sanjay Singh
AAP UP Prabhari and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that when AAP Purvanchal state president Rajesh Yadav raised questions about irregularities in the voter list, Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa responded at 12:30 am with remarks that were deeply objectionable and reflected a communal mindset.
He said the Election Commission’s statement that “the software is not casteist, and thank goodness Ram did not kill a minority person, otherwise we would have been accused of being communal” proved that a BJP agent was occupying a constitutional post. Free and fair elections in Uttar Pradesh were impossible with such an official in office, he said, demanding strict action against him.
Names such as ‘Ram ne Yadav ko Mara’ and “Bheek Mangte hai’ have made a mockery of l EC: Sanjay Singh
Highlighting absurd errors in the voter list, Sanjay Singh said entries included “Ram ne maara Yadav ko”, whose father’s name was listed as “Murkh Chand Yadav”; “Takkar Marna”, whose father’s name was “Bittu Takkar Marna”; and “Narendra Yadav”, whose father’s name was “B.Com.” He also said Mohammed Iqbal Beg’s name had been changed to “Mohammed Iqbal Bheek Mangte Hai”.
Sanjay Singh said officials were offering the absurd explanation that the English phrase “Ram Hit Yadav” had been translated into Hindi as “Ram ne Yadav ko maara”. If the same formula were applied to names, he said, Navdeep Rinwa’s name should also be translated into something like “Nayi Gehraai Redua”.
Election Commission’s double standards in issuing notices have troubled everyone, from VIPs to ordinary citizens: Sanjay Singh
Sanjay Singh said, “Under the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, a notice was issued because an extra ‘F’ had appeared in the name of Bharat Ratna awardee Professor C. N. R. Rao. Notices citing logical discrepancies were also sent to senior figures such as L. K. Advani, a former Army Chief, the External Affairs Minister, Election Commissioner Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, Arvind Kejriwal and Kapil Sibal.”
However, he asked why the Commission had not issued notices and corrected the records when distorted names such as “Ram ne Yadav Ko Maara” or “Bheek Mangta Hai” appeared in voter lists.
Organised conspiracy to delete names by targeting minorities: Sanjay Singh
Sanjay Singh cited figures to allege that a systematic conspiracy was underway to remove Muslim voters’ names in particular. He said that in Pilibhit, Baburam filed applications to delete 237 names, of which 212, or 89%, belonged to Muslims. In Tarabganj, Reshma submitted applications to remove 174 of 188 names, or 93%, belonging to Muslim voters.
He noted that Nisha submitted applications concerning 109 of 124 names (88%); Dheeraj, 97 of 112 (87%); Kamlesh in Jehanabad, 65 of 75 (87%); Brijmohan, 63 of 66 (95%); Devdatt, 59 of 62 (95%); and Jaswant in Biswan, 55 of 59 (93%).
He added that 13,000 identical EPIC numbers had been found in Pilibhit, 7,000 suspicious voters had been identified in Basti, and a case had been uncovered in Sultanpur in which one person had filled out 26 fake forms.
Sanjay Singh added, “This list proves that you are not only casteist but communal as well. I want to tell the Election Commission to stop lying. Remember that whatever fraud you are carrying out in Uttar Pradesh’s elections will not be allowed to continue. We will keep exposing these irregularities.”
Gorakhpur MLC elections: Person under CBI investigation appointed as counting observer: Sanjay Singh
Sanjay Singh said, “Abhay Singh had been appointed as the counting observer for the Gorakhpur region’s MLC elections, despite being under CBI investigation in a case involving the alleged acceptance of bribes from mining mafias. BJP MLC Devendra Pratap Singh and BJP candidate Sanjayan Tripathi had also lodged complaints about the matter.”
He demanded that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Uttar Pradesh CEO immediately remove the tainted observer before counting began the following day to ensure a fair counting process.
Responding to questions from journalists, Sanjay Singh took a sarcastic swipe at the Prime Minister over remarks made about him. He said the Prime Minister described himself as “non-biological” and an avatar, and asked what effect an earthly comment could have on an avatar. “The BJP routinely abuses the Opposition, while its workers even engage in acts such as tearing the clothes of women and girls,” he added.
