Patiala,: Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh has said that the Punjab government is working fast on a plan to provide permanent relief to Patiala from floods. He said that along with strengthening the embankment of the Badi river from Daulatpur to Dakla Road, its water carrying capacity is being increased by deepening the 4 km stretch from Dakla Road to Ghaggar.

Dr. Balbir Singh was holding a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Agarwal and other district officials at the District Administrative Complex here today. The Health Minister said that the Punjab government has planned to plant 6.5 lakh saplings in Patiala district alone on the occasion of the 650th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji, out of which a large number of saplings are proposed to be planted on the banks of the Badi river by strengthening its embankment, for which orders have been issued to the Forest Department.

Dr. Balbir Singh said that instructions have been given to treat the water from both the STPs near Daulatpur and Sunny Enclave on the banks of the Badi river at a cost of Rs. 87 crore and use it for irrigation. He also reviewed the condition of dead fish in the Hiana Kalan pond on this occasion and directed the concerned departments to take immediate necessary action and clean the pond.

The Health Minister took serious note of the broken roads near DLF Colony in Tripuri area and directed the Municipal Corporation and Sewerage Board officials to resolve the problem of this road within this week. He said that due to the crisis in Lucknow due to the Iran-Israel war, there has been some delay in the work of the roads, but the work of 10 main roads of Patiala Rural constituency will be completed within the next few days.

Dr. Balbir Singh also reviewed the work of repairing the roads damaged due to laying water pipes by L&T, providing 5 marla plots to the needy in 42 villages in Patiala Rural constituency, granting ownership rights within the red line in the villages, and cleaning and renovating the ponds of Barn, Ghamroda and Mandaur.

During this meeting, ADC Anuprita Johal, ACA PDA Paramdeep Singh, District Revenue Officer Sandeep Singh, Deputy CEO of Zila Parishad Amandeep Kaur along with district officers of Municipal Corporation, Forest, Sewerage Board, Drainage and other related departments were present.
