Chandigarh: 31 May 2026  :The Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab has taken another big and historic decision in the interest of the employees of the state. During the cabinet meeting, the process of regularizing more than 65,000 outsourced and casual employees working in 51 government departments of the state and the decision to permanently end the decades-old contractual system has been officially approved. With this step of the government, the future of thousands of families will be secured.

Elimination of middlemen, earnings will come directly into bank accounts

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, while sharing the information about the decision, said that now there will be no middlemen or private contractors in government employment. Every employee will have a direct connection with the government, due to which the exploitation by contractors will be completely stopped. The hard earned money of the employees will be transferred directly to their bank accounts without any deduction. To give legal form to this new system, the cabinet has approved new bills and ordinances.

Special exemption for employees doing risky work

The government has given a huge relief to workers engaged in risky jobs like firemen, sewermen, sanitation workers and Powercom linemen. To bring such risky employees directly under the purview of government contracts, the service requirement has been reduced from 5 years to just 3 years. Under this policy, employees will also get legal facilities like maternity leave and 10 casual holidays per year. Also, no employee will be dismissed from his job without giving a written reason and an opportunity for hearing.

Sub-committee to resolve DA and take strict steps against corruption

A special Cabinet sub-committee has also been formed to permanently resolve the long-pending arrears and DA (Dearness Allowance) issues of employees and pensioners.

Along with this, approval has been given to set up 7 new Special Courts to bring transparency in the state and dispose of corruption cases expeditiously without any delay. These courts will be set up at Mohali (S.A.S. Nagar), Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar and Patiala.

The Chief Minister has clearly stated that the days of trampling on the rights of the common people and employees are over and ‘your government’ is fully committed to the welfare of every section of Punjab and their bright future.
