Chandigarh, July 28, 2026 : The ongoing strike of electricity employees in the state has ended after continuous meetings between the Punjab government and employee organizations. This information was given by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.

He said that employees related to PSPCL and PSEB were on strike for the last few days regarding their various demands, due to which the functioning of the power department was affected and the common people also had to face difficulties. To resolve the matter, the Power Minister and the Administrative Director of the department first held talks with the unions, after which the Finance Minister also had a detailed discussion with the employee leaders for about five hours.

According to Cheema, during the meeting held with 16 employee unions, a consensus was reached on several demands, as a result of which the strike has been withdrawn. He said that a special committee has been formed to resolve the demands related to the finance department, which will submit its report to the government by August 15. Further decisions will be taken on the basis of this report. The Finance Minister also said that the government’s talks with the staff of Aam Aadmi Clinics have also been successful. He said that the clinic employees have also agreed to withdraw their protest program and no strike will be held now.

Meanwhile, speaking on the debt issue, Harpal Singh Cheema targeted the opposition parties. He said that compared to the previous governments, the current government has taken steps to control the debt burden. He claimed that the total debt ratio of the state has been reduced by about 3 percent.
