Government’s Special Emphasis on Expansion and Strengthening of health services in the state: Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini

Chandigarh , September 2 – Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Naib Singh Saini said that it is the priority of the state government to provide better , modern and expert health services to the people of the state near them . The government is continuously strengthening the health services as well as medical education facilities in the medical colleges and hospitals of the state , so that the common people can get better treatment in case of serious diseases and emergency situations.

Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini was chairing the State Finance Committee meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday. The meeting discussed the Phase -II expansion of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital in Karnal. Health Minister Aarti Rao was also present during the meeting. Under Phase- II , the medical facilities and capacity of the hospital will be expanded on a large scale . This will provide better and super-specialty health services to the people of Karnal and surrounding areas. At present, Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital admits 120 MBBS students every year and has 64 PG seats. The hospital has a capacity of about 600 beds.

A cost of Rs. 404.95 crore has been proposed for the expansion of the hospital complex under Phase -II . Under this, facilities related to Trauma Center , Burn Unit and Burn Ward , ICU , ICCU , General Medicine , Nephrology , Neuro Surgery and Psychiatry Department will be developed. Apart from this, helipad and other necessary supporting and auxiliary facilities will also be arranged. Under the proposed expansion, about 505 new beds will be added to the hospital. This will increase the total bed capacity of the hospital from about 600 to 1100 beds. This will enable better treatment facilities to patients of serious diseases , accidents and other complex cases and will increase the availability of specialist and super-specialty health services in the area.

Officials said that similarly, the MBBS admission capacity in the medical college is proposed to be increased from 120 seats to 250 seats. This will also significantly increase the capacity of the institution for medical education and training of doctors. Some construction work has already been started under Phase -II . Additional hostel and residential facilities are being constructed by Haryana Police Housing Corporation at a cost of Rs. 169.58 crore. Meanwhile , the Phase- II expansion work of the hospital complex will be started soon.

The Phase- II expansion will not only meet the current needs of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital but also provide the necessary infrastructure for future expansion of educational , clinical and super-specialty services. This will further strengthen the institution as a premier institution providing comprehensive tertiary medical education and health services.

During the meeting, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr. Arun Kumar Gupta , Commissioner and Secretary of the Medical Education and Research Department Mr. C.G. Rajni Kanthan , Director of the Medical Education and Research Department Mr. Dhirinder Khargata and other officials were present.
