The ongoing military conflict between the US and Iran is becoming more serious. Both countries continued to attack each other’s military bases and important infrastructure on Saturday as well. Tensions are increasing, especially over the world’s most important maritime trade route, the Strait of Hormuz, due to which the situation in the Middle East seems to be becoming more explosive.
After the breakdown of the interim ceasefire, the series of attacks between the two countries has continued continuously and there are currently no signs of this conflict ending soon. The US Central Command informed that it carried out new air strikes for the seventh consecutive night with the aim of weakening Iran’s military capabilities. During these operations, surveillance centers, underground weapons depots, military equipment and structures related to maritime defense were targeted.
On the other hand, the countries of the Gulf region are also coming under the influence of this war. Kuwait claimed that its air defense system destroyed several missiles and drones fired by Iran on their way. Despite this, a desalination plant caught fire due to the attack. The plant is very important for Kuwait, as about 90 percent of the country’s drinking water is obtained by purifying seawater.
According to the Kuwait Fire Force, two other places also caught fire due to the attacks, which injured several workers while extinguishing them. In view of the security threat, the country’s airspace was closed for some time, while Kuwait Airways announced a change in the timing of most flights to and from the capital.
Meanwhile, Iraq said that a drone flying over the city of Erbil had been shot down. Jordan also claimed to have destroyed several missiles with its air defense system. In Bahrain, air sirens were also sounded several times due to the security situation, which created an atmosphere of concern among the people.
Iranian officials say dozens of people have been killed and hundreds more injured in the recent US strikes. On the other hand, the US military has also confirmed the injuries of several of its soldiers. Both sides are stepping up attacks on each other, which has created a serious challenge to regional security.
The biggest impact of this conflict is also being seen on the global economy. Iran’s effective blockade of ships through the Strait of Hormuz has affected the supply of crude oil. As a result, the price of crude oil reached above 86 US dollars per barrel on Friday, while the number of commercial ships passing through this route has also fallen to its lowest level in the last three weeks.
Analysts believe that if tensions in the Strait of Hormuz escalate further, it could have a direct impact on global energy supplies, oil prices, maritime trade and the economies of many countries. Therefore, the international community is urging both countries to exercise restraint and find a diplomatic solution.
